The Township has a five-member Zoning Board of Appeals to hear requests from citizens for relief from ordinances. Usually, these requests have to do with variances. A variance is an approved departure from the normal requirements imposed by the local zoning ordinance. A variance is needed if the construction, alteration, or occupancy of a structure will result in a violation of zoning requirements.
This Board is authorized to grant dimension variances from the zoning ordinance and upon request may interpret questionable provisions of the zoning ordinance. Variances should be based upon practical difficulties or unnecessary hardship in strict compliance with the zoning ordinance.
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets as variance requests are received.
